Noord Natie Ventspils Terminals is a dynamic company, which began its operation in 2000, when the 1st Phase of construction was completed. The idea of the terminal was determined by the conception of the Ventspils Free Port authority to develop new projects and attract perspective cargo flows - containerisation services and intermodal solutions are the power of this century's logistics. The terminal comprises the best experience in port management, wide international contacts and high standard technologies.

Important stages of development

1st cranes - a milestone in our up growth

Ventspils, January 28, 2000 - a specialized heavy-lift vessel arrived with our first cranes.

35 tons rail-mounted crane was installed on quay 16 with maximum outreach 45 m and capacity up to 35 T.
Mobile Gottwald crane has maximum outreach 44 m and it can handle up to 100T.

Terminal employees, local companies as well as technical specialists from Noord Natie Antwerp performed the mounting and installation of cranes.

Official completion of the 1st phase of terminal construction

Ventspils, May 22, 2000 - site presentation of investment projects took place in the port of Ventspils in the scope of the Baltic Business Conference held on the occasion of the Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the EBRD. During the visit to the Ventspils port, a presentation and reception at Noord Natie Ventspils Terminals was organized.

Construction works of the Multipurpose-handling centre were started in 1998. The terminal facilities are all ready to service the first customers. Final works on infrastructure are completed to reach 1st phase operational readiness of the terminal as from May 2000.

NNVT is one of the most important and biggest private investment projects implemented by EBRD in the area of transport business in the Baltic region. The goal of the EBRD is providing not only financial assistance to the Eastern European countries in the context of global economic development, but also emphasizing the importance of opportunities for regional co-operation therefore ensuring political stability.

Delivery of Gantry crane

Ventspils, June 18, 2000 - on Sunday a container crane was delivered to Noord Natie Ventspils Terminals. The crane was delivered on barge from Finland and it is capable of handling Panamax type vessels at width of 13 containers.

Capacity: 60 tons under the spreader, 70 tons under the hook
Outreach: 37m
Unloading of the crane was completed on 20th of June. Training of crane operators was started three weeks later, when all mounting works were completed.

1st ships served at NNVT

Ventspils, August 1, 2000 - after years of planning and many months of construction works Noord Natie Ventspils Terminals has handled its first vessels “Aura” and “Finmaid”.

We were particularly proud that VV-line of Sweden has selected our terminal for its link with Västervik and calling three times a week with passengers, cars and trailers.

At the same time Latvian Shipping Company called with m/v Aura. This vessel is maintaining a regular general cargo/container service between Latvian and Western Europe. The terminal succeeded in attracting transit cargoes from Russia for stuffing in containers. Boxes loaded on m/v Aura are for transshipment in Antwerp and eventually find their way into the Far East.

Formal opening of the Terminal

Ventspils, October 10, 2000 - official opening of the Terminal was held in 10th of October 2000, participated by investors, representatives from city council, state institutions, terminal’s key people, persona concerned.

Today Noord Natie Ventspils Terminals strikes for one goal - to strengthen its positions in the global transport network and to become a strategic point within the container and Ro-Ro cargo logistics chain between Western Europe, Russia, CIS countries and Asia.
